Master Your Merry Flow: How to Keep the Holiday Spirit High and Menstrual Troubles Low

Christmas eh. What a time!

A beautiful time for most but certainly not a challenge free time.

There are so many more demands on us.

Whether that's financial, emotional, mental, physical, sensory.

It's a lot.

And it can all take a toll on our menstrual health.

So I wanted to share some insights on how to embrace your menstrual cycle during this festive time, keeping your energy levels up and your menstrual troubles at bay.

The holiday season can be both joyful and stressful, but it doesn't have to negatively impact your menstrual cycle. By understanding and honouring the natural rhythms of your body, you can maintain a sense of balance, well-being, and keep that holiday spirit shining bright.

Here are a few tips to help you master your merry flow:

1. Listen to Your Body

During the holidays, it's easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle. Take moments throughout the day to check in with yourself. Are you feeling tired? Restless? Needing some quiet time? By tuning into these signals, you can adjust your activities accordingly, giving yourself the care and attention you deserve.

2. Prioritise Self-Care

The holiday season is all about giving, but don't forget to give back to yourself too! Make self-care a non-negotiable part of your routine. Whether it's taking a warm bath, practicing mindfulness meditation, or indulging in a favorite hobby, ensure that you're nurturing your mind, body, and soul.

3. Nourish Your Body

Indulge in festive treats but also prioritise nourishing foods. Balanced nutrition plays a pivotal role in supporting your hormonal balance and overall well-being.

4. Move Mindfully

Engaging in regular physical activity helps alleviate menstrual symptoms such as cramps and mood swings. Find movement that feels good to you, whether it's gentle yoga, dancing, or going for a walk in nature. Don't overdo your activity during your inner winter (period) and inner autumn (premenstrual phase).

5. Embrace Rest

The holiday season often comes with late nights and increased social activities. While it's important to enjoy these moments, remember to prioritise rest as well. Allow yourself time to unwind and recharge, honouring your body's need for adequate sleep (particularly in your inner winter and inner autumn). Quality rest supports hormonal balance and ensures you have the energy to fully enjoy the festivities. Your body—and your cycle—will thank you.

6. Set Boundaries

'Tis the season of giving, but don't forget to give to yourself. Set boundaries, say no when needed, and ensure you have the space for self-care.

7. Hydration is Key

Keep yourself hydrated. Water is not just a thirst quencher; it's a menstrual health booster. It aids in digestion, circulation, and helps manage bloating.

By implementing these tips into your Christmas routine, you can keep your spirits high and menstrual troubles low. Remember, your menstrual cycle is not an inconvenience but rather an opportunity for self-discovery and empowerment.
